Give Bucky a crease.
A running back’s opportunity can disappear in a heartbeat. Bucky Irving makes his living in that heartbeat—finding a crease, changing direction and turning a defender’s first chance into a missed one.
Tampa Bay selected him in the fourth round of the 2024 draft to strengthen its backfield. By the end of that season, he had become the Buccaneers’ first 1,000-yard rusher since Doug Martin in 2015 and earned a place on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Draft report • 1,000-yard milestone.
An injury-interrupted second season brought a different challenge. His 2026 return has supplied fresh highlights, including a career-high 170 rushing yards against Atlanta on November 1. The story is still developing; all current-season statistics on this page stop at that game. Recovery and return • Week 8 recap.

2024 A rookie breakthrough.
Irving rushed for 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 47 receptions for 392 yards. He led NFL rookies in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and yards from scrimmage.
His 5.4 yards per carry set a Buccaneers single-season record among players with at least 100 attempts. The PFWA All-Rookie selection recognized a debut season that gave Tampa Bay a new source of offense. Rookie-season honors.
2025 Injuries, rehabilitation and a return.
Foot and shoulder injuries suffered in Week Four led to a seven-game absence. Irving returned against Arizona on November 30, contributing 81 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown in a 20–17 win.
He finished the season with 588 rushing yards, 277 receiving yards and four combined touchdowns in 10 appearances. His shoulder required surgery during the offseason. Return against Arizona • Offseason recovery.
2026 Building momentum again.
Cleared for unrestricted work at the opening of training camp, Irving began his third NFL season with a fresh opportunity to contribute. Through Week Eight, he has 728 rushing yards, 78 receiving yards and six combined touchdowns.
His October 8 game at Dallas produced 165 rushing yards and both a rushing and receiving touchdown. On November 1, he raised his career rushing best to 170 yards against Atlanta. Official game log.

Career highs in rushing yards and carries
The afternoon began with a costly mistake: Irving lost a fumble near the goal line. He responded with the biggest rushing performance of his NFL career through this date.
A 46-yard run helped set up his four-yard touchdown in the third quarter. That score was the game’s only touchdown as Tampa Bay beat Atlanta 16–0 in heavy rain without completing a pass.
Irving supplied 170 yards, while Kenny Gainwell added 140 of his own. It was a shared commitment to the ground game, with Bucky delivering a memorable personal best.

Two 1,000-yard seasons at Oregon
Irving rushed for 1,058 yards in 2022 and 1,180 in 2023. His final college season also included 56 catches, the most among FBS running backs, and second-team All-Pac-12 recognition.
He was the offensive MVP of the 2022 Holiday Bowl after running for 149 yards and two touchdowns. His versatility even extended to throwing: against Colorado that November, he delivered an 18-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Bo Nix.

Fourth round. First-rate opportunity.
The Buccaneers selected Irving with the 125th pick on April 27, 2024. They had brought him in for a pre-draft visit and saw a player who could add competition and another option alongside Rachaad White. His rookie production quickly showed what that opportunity could become.
