Statistics through November 1, 2026 (Week 8). The 2026 season is in progress. Profile and receiving totals: official Buccaneers biography and career statistics. Jersey history: Tampa Bay’s 2020 announcement.
The value of being there when it matters
Some receivers announce themselves with a celebration. Chris Godwin has built his Buccaneers story through the work before it: finding space, securing the ball and staying involved when the play belongs to someone else. For the Krewe, No. 14 represents the sort of dependable football that makes a talented offense feel like a team.
His place in Tampa Bay history is already substantial. In its October 29, 2026 feature, the club identified Godwin as second only to Mike Evans in franchise receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. That same account emphasized his blocking and awareness in a run-focused offense—contributions that do not always produce a line in the receiving table. The Buccaneers on Godwin’s all-around role.
This is the story of a third-round pick who grew into a Pro Bowler, helped bring home a Lombardi Trophy and kept working through difficult returns from injury. The statistics document the catches. The championship run and the work between those catches explain why he belongs in this Spotlight.
The Buccaneers chapter
From third-round promise to a Tampa Bay mainstay
2017–2019 A steady climb, then a breakthrough.
Tampa Bay selected Godwin 84th overall in the 2017 draft. He began with 34 catches as a rookie and increased that total to 59 in his second season. By 2019, his production had become a centerpiece of the passing game. His rookie signing; season records.
The breakthrough brought 86 receptions, 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. Godwin earned a 2019 Pro Bowl selection and AP second-team All-Pro honors. The yardage and touchdown figures remain his single-season bests through this page’s update. Tampa Bay’s All-Pro announcement.
2020–2023 A ring, a setback and a career high.
In 2020, Godwin changed to No. 14 and became part of Tampa Bay’s championship offense. His 110-yard performance at Green Bay helped the Bucs reach Super Bowl LV. That playoff run ended with a title on their home field. The championship-season game log.
A torn ACL ended his 2021 season before the playoffs. He returned in 2022 to make a career-high 104 catches, then passed 1,000 receiving yards again in 2023. Those seasons demonstrated both his role in the offense and the persistence required to regain it. The club’s career and comeback review.
2024–2026 Another recovery, the same commitment.
Godwin had 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games in 2024 before a dislocated ankle ended his season. In March 2025, he agreed to a new three-year deal with Tampa Bay. The extension announcement.
He finished 2025 with 33 receptions in nine appearances. His 2026 work continues: through Week 8, he had played eight games, with 27 receptions for 243 yards. The dated 2026 snapshot below records that ongoing season without treating it as a finished chapter.

The biggest receiving afternoon of Godwin’s championship run came one game before the Super Bowl. At Green Bay in the NFC Championship, he caught five passes for 110 yards, including a 52-yard gain, as Tampa Bay won 31–26.
Against Kansas City, he contributed two catches for nine yards as the Bucs completed the job, 31–9. His championship contribution belongs to the entire four-game journey: an opening-round touchdown at Washington, work through New Orleans and Green Bay, and the final victory in Tampa. The route to No. 14
A Penn State receiver with a big-stage finish
Born in Philadelphia and a high-school standout at Middletown in Delaware, Godwin played three seasons at Penn State. He left college with 154 receptions for 2,421 yards and 18 touchdowns. His 2015 season supplied 1,101 receiving yards; in 2016, he caught 11 touchdown passes. Tampa Bay’s college-career summary.
His final college appearance delivered a memorable showcase. In the Rose Bowl on January 2, 2017, Godwin caught nine passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns, including a 72-yard score. Penn State lost a 52–49 thriller to USC, but his performance provided an emphatic closing statement before the draft. Penn State’s Rose Bowl report.
Why Tampa Bay remembers two numbers
Godwin wore No. 12 during his first three NFL seasons. When Tom Brady arrived in 2020, Godwin offered him the number and switched to No. 14. Tampa Bay announced the change on April 1, 2020. The official jersey announcement.
The new number soon became part of the championship photographs. His 2019 breakout belongs to No. 12; the Super Bowl LV season and the years that followed belong to No. 14. Both are part of the same Buccaneers career.
