Dirk Koetter earned his first win as an NFL head coach as the quarterback Jameis Winston threw for 281 yards and four touchdown passes, Winston bounced back from an early interception to throw four scoring passes including a spectacular diving reception by Austin Seferian-Jenkins as Tampa Bay defeated Atlanta 31–24. The Buccaneers jumped out to a 31–13 lead late in the third quarter, then held off a rally by the Falcons. Atlanta got the ball back trailing by 7 with just under two minutes to go, but managed only one first down, and turned the ball over on downs to end the game.

The Buccaneers defense wavered at times but three sacks at key moments and the game-sealing final stand sent the Buccaneers back home to Tampa at 1-0 on the season.
