WEEK 8 POST-GAME REPORT

MUD, RUM & A DIRTY BIRD SHUTOUT!

Bucky runs wild, the parrot demands his missing hour, and Captain Booty campaigns for a roof before his trousers abandon ship.

Atlanta Falcons 0 — Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 | Tampa Bay: 3–5
November 1, 2026 • Raymond James Stadium • Tampa, Florida

ARRRRGH, ME SOGGY HEARTIES!

Somewhere between the first puddle and the last cannon blast, Raymond James Stadium became a mud wrestling ring with goalposts. The turf was at high tide, the football required careful navigation, and Captain Booty was beginning to wonder whether his ticket included a mooring permit.

“WHO MOVED TAMPA BAY INSIDE THE STADIUM?” he bellowed.

The parrot shook rain from his feathers.

“You wanted waterfront seating.”

Through that glorious mess, our Buccaneers paddled, pounded and plundered their way to a 16–0 victory over Atlanta, improving to 3–5 while completing precisely zero passes.

That last part is correct. Your screen has not drowned.

Tampa Bay delivered this victory by ground, with Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell handling the freight and a defense that confiscated four Atlanta passes. The Dirty Birds arrived looking for a divisional win and departed with the largest goose egg in the harbor.

THE PARROT SURVIVED HALLOWEEN

Our feathered companion had made it through Halloween, although he remained offended that several neighborhood children had mistaken him for an unusually judgmental costume accessory.

He was also unimpressed with the Captain’s outfit.

“You went as a pirate.”

“Aye. A CAPTAIN... Convincing, wasn’t I?”

“You went as Tuesday.”

Then came the clocks.

“SIXTY MINUTES!” the parrot squawked. “Some scoundrel has pinched sixty minutes! Yesterday the sun knew when to go down. Today it’s leaving early!”

Captain Booty consulted a watch that had survived saltwater, several questionable taverns and almost no accurate timekeeping.

“We fell back, bird. The clocks went back an hour. Ye gained sixty minutes.”

The parrot stared at him.

“An extra hour supervising you?”

“Aye.”

“I demand a refund.”

By kickoff, the bird had survived Halloween and daylight saving time, only to discover that his Sunday itinerary included an outdoor shower with no towel service.

THE RAIN DANCE AND THE RETRACTABLE ROOF

The Buccaneers Cheerleaders kept the energy high through the downpour, dancing with such determination that Captain Booty began to suspect the choreography was controlling the weather.

“Magnificent effort, ladies!” he hollered. “But if that be the rain dance, could ye skip ahead to the sunshine number?”

The parrot tucked himself beneath the brim of the Captain’s hat.

“They’re doing their jobs. Your hat is doing mine.”

For one dangerous moment, watching Atlanta struggle in the wet, Captain Booty reconsidered his campaign to cover the stadium. Perhaps a pirate crew really did enjoy an advantage when the playing surface resembled a tidal basin.

Then a fresh stream of rainwater went down his collar.

“RETRACTABLE!” he announced. “That be the important word!”

His 43 doubloon roof fund still weighed heavily in the bag of booty at his hip. The soaked bag had acquired the properties of an anchor, and his trousers were beginning a slow voyage south.

“Me booty bag is sagging me trousers!”

“Your next construction project,” said the parrot, “should be suspenders.”

McLAUGHLIN KEEPS THE POWDER DRY

Atlanta’s opening possession ended with Nick Folk’s 53 yard field goal attempt sailing wide left. Captain Booty immediately declared the uprights protected by maritime law.

Tampa Bay answered with a 46 yard Chase McLaughlin field goal after Ted Hurst III could not secure a back shoulder opportunity in the end zone. Three points went into the chest, and the Captain settled in to count the plunder.

Then Alex Anzalone began intercepting deliveries.

His first pick gave Tampa Bay the ball at Atlanta’s 33 after an eight yard return. The Bucs threatened to turn that gift into a touchdown, but Jessie Bates III forced the ball loose from Irving near the goal line. It went into the end zone for a touchback.

The Captain’s celebration stopped halfway through a cannon loading gesture.

“WE HAD THE TREASURE AT THE GANGPLANK!”

“Yes,” said the parrot. “Then we dropped the chest.”

Anzalone promptly supplied another opportunity, returning his second interception to Atlanta’s 19. McLaughlin added a 34 yard field goal, pushing the advantage to 6–0.

Next, Jacob Parrish intercepted Michael Penix Jr. at Tampa Bay’s 17 on fourth down. The offense followed with a patient 13 play, 60 yard march, and McLaughlin finished it with a 42 yard field goal.

Buccaneers 09. Falcons 00.

Three successful kicks in conditions that made the Captain nervous about standing upright.

“Give that man a dry pair of socks and whatever’s left in the good bottle!”

BUCKY AND KENNY OPEN THE SHIPPING LANES

Baker Mayfield finished 0-for-3 for zero passing yards, a line that would normally send Captain Booty searching for emergency rum and a priest willing to bless a playbook.

On this afternoon, the running game supplied everything the offense needed.

Irving carried 27 times for 170 yards and a touchdown. Gainwell added 140 rushing yards. Together, they piled up 310 yards, with Tampa Bay’s blockers carving routes through a field that looked ready to swallow a wheelbarrow.

The decisive voyage came late in the third quarter: six plays, 90 yards, and finally a touchdown to reward all that work.

Irving broke loose for 46 yards, charging to Atlanta’s 34. Gainwell followed with a 28 yard run, hurdling a defender on his way to the six.

Captain Booty leaped to his feet.

“HE’S CLEARING SUBMERGED DEBRIS!”

The parrot seized the hat brim before both of them went overboard.

“They’re doing the running, Captain. Explain why YOU are out of breath.”

Irving finished the drive with a four yard touchdown run, and the extra point made it 16–0.

The Captain attempted a victory dance. His treasure bag attempted a pants removal. A firm grip on his belt prevented an entirely different kind of exposure on national television.

FOUR INTERCEPTIONS AND A LOCKED HARBOR

Penix threw four interceptions, with Anzalone collecting two and Parrish and Zyon McCollum taking one apiece. McCollum’s pick at Tampa Bay’s 14 extinguished another Atlanta opportunity.

“Our defense has caught more Atlanta passes than our offense has caught Tampa passes,” the parrot observed.

Captain Booty considered this.

“Excellent. We’ve outsourced the receiving.”

Even when Jahan Dotson’s 76 yard gain put Atlanta at the Tampa Bay 22 with just over three minutes remaining, the Bucs held their ground. A fourth down incompletion ended the threat and preserved the shutout.

For a fan base that had endured enough fourth quarter anxiety to qualify for a group discount on antacids, that stop deserved its own cannon salute.

Then Gainwell supplied a final piece of history. His late six-yard run carried Tampa Bay past the previous franchise rushing record of 283 yards. The Bucs finished with more than 320 yards on the ground, turning an afternoon of miserable weather into a record-setting victory.

The only thing Atlanta successfully kept off the field was Tampa Bay’s passing game. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Bucs had already found another route to the treasure.

THE CAPTAIN COUNTS THE PLUNDER

Buccaneer Sunday’s haul
Bucky Irving 27 carries, 170 rushing yards, 1 touchdown
Kenny Gainwell 140 rushing yards
Baker Mayfield 0 completions in 3 attempts, 0 passing yards
Alex Anzalone 6 total tackles, 2 interceptions
Jacob Parrish 1 interception
Zyon McCollum 1 interception
Chase McLaughlin Field goals from 46, 34 and 42 yards; 1 extra point
Buccaneers defense 4 interceptions; 0 points allowed

The victory also delivered Tampa Bay’s first home win of the season. After all those trips through “Raymond "Graves" Stadium,” the home Krewe finally got to celebrate something livelier than a promising opening drive.

At 3–5, the Buccaneers remain a work in progress, but they have consecutive division victories and sit half a game behind 3–4 Carolina. There is still plenty of sailing ahead. At least the ship is moving in a direction that does not require a distress flare.

“Last week, civic duty,” Captain Booty declared, remembering his trip to the Homosassa Public Library. “This week, division duty!”

The parrot inspected him.

“Your ‘I VOTED’ sticker is peeling.”

“Aye. But me faith is sticking.”

TUESDAY BELONGS TO THE VOTERS

Before the Krewe dispersed to wring out their jerseys, Captain Booty climbed onto a convenient perch and raised a dripping hand.

“A reminder to every eligible member of Ye Krewe of Pewter Pirates: Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. If ye haven’t already voted, study yer choices, check yer polling place and make yer voice heard.”

Participation is voluntary, and every voter’s choices are their own. Our Krewe can share a love of Buccaneers football while respecting one another’s decisions at the ballot box. Consult your local election office for official voting information.

Captain Booty had already performed his civic duty. He was now concentrating on a separate piece of paperwork: the entirely unofficial Krewe Wish List, where he proudly entered his favorite write-in:

FUND A RETRACTABLE STADIUM ROOF. THE RUM IS DILUTING.

“That,” the parrot explained, “is a suggestion scroll. It is not an actual ballot measure. Keep your real ballot to the choices and instructions provided.”

“Aye, but the roof has overwhelming support beneath this hat!”

The parrot added a second request beneath it:

BUY THE CAPTAIN SUSPENDERS BEFORE THE NEXT HOME GAME.

“Now THAT,” the bird said, “is a public-service proposal.”

A DRY ENDING REMAINS UNAVAILABLE

As the Krewe headed out, the Captain emptied water from his hat, checked his 43 doubloons and took one last satisfied look at the scoreboard.

Sixteen for Tampa Bay. Nothing for Atlanta.

The parrot had survived Halloween. The defense had survived every Atlanta threat. The Captain’s trousers had survived mostly through manual intervention.

“FIRE THE CANNONS!” he roared. “PROTECT THE RUM! AND KEEP THE POINTS COMING—THE ROOF AIN’T PAID FOR YET!”

The parrot settled onto his shoulder.

“And no, Captain. That is still not a building permit.”

SIEGE THE DAY, YE SOGGY BUCCANEERS!

FEED BUCKY. FEED THE PARROT.

Per the words of Forest Gump… “And That's All I Have To Say About That”.
