Tampa Bay crushed the visiting Bears 41–0, setting a franchise record for a shutout.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Buccaneers scored 20 points in the second quarter. Shaun King finished the day with two touchdown passes and one touchdown run. The Buccaneers won their home opener, and started the season 2–0.

Per Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy ""We haven't won like that in quite a while", the Buccaneers Fans were energised and excited that Tampa Bay might be Super Bowl bound.
