And the receiver was on another boat. It wasn't a football that was thrown, either. It was the Lombardi Trophy.
During Wednesday's boat parade in Tampa to honor the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after their 31-9 victory Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, Brady had possession of the Lombardi Trophy and tossed it to another boat so that the players on the other one could celebrate with the trophy.
It was an underhand toss, with Brady appearing to cautiously prepare for the throw by gauging the weight and trajectory he should use. The two boats were moving at the same time and there appeared to be a distance of about 10 to 15 feet between them.
The Buccaneers were having a boat parade to increase the social distancing between players, coaches, staff and fans as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge.
After a video showing a smiling Brady being helped once he got back on land went viral, Brady responded with a tweet filled with misspelled words, saying: "Noting to see her...just litTle avoCado tequila."
Brady, who won his record fifth Super Bowl MVP award in the game, completed 21 of 29 passes for 201 yards with three touchdowns. He finished with a quarterback rating of 125.8.
The victory was Brady's seventh Super Bowl championship in his 10th career appearance, both of which are also records.
Brady, 43, just completed his 21st NFL season and announced right after the game that he would be returning for the 2021 season.
